Quid’s for Tricks Competition at the Works Skatepark

On the 4th of May Mikey Wright and Jason Brown hosted the ‘Quid’s for tricks’ comp, sponsored by Krew Clothing and the Works who donated prize money.
The format was best trick on various obstacles within the park including flatbanks, grind rails, fun boxes and the mini ramp. The skaters were split into under 16’s and over 16’s and all competed for spot prizes of cash and product.
In the under 16’s on the small flatbank the skaters landed kickflips to fakie, tre flips and huge gap transfers into a tight quarter pipe on the street course. On the manual pad a highlight trick landed was Joe Moores (past game of S.K.AT.E. winner) 180 big spin to manual 360 shuv-it out.
On the grind rail in the rhythm section Exit’s Charlie Comrie landed an array of grinds with a standout kickflip to boardslide. Ilkey’s Tom Harrison nailed a huge nollie heel flip from bank to bank over the rail along with trademark huge ollies over the hip!
On the wallride the works very own Josh Young (manhead), Avid and again Tom Harrison hit the wall at new heights, frontside, backside, fakie and switch leaving wheel marks higher than ever before.
The flatground tricks from the likes of Vans Ben Nordberg, Rory Mckenzie, Joe Moore and Manhead were worthy of winning the most intense games of skate.
On mini-ramp the host Mikey Wright demonstrated skill and a mass of incredible tricks to back his growing reputation as one of the best skaters in the country. When joined by Manhead in skate doubles the level went through the roof and was one of the highlights of the day!
Overall the day was a huge success with a large turnout of sponsored and un-sponsored skaters all picking up ‘Quids for Tricks’. Hopefully this comp was not a one off and will return next year bigger and better.
The Works would like to thank Krew clothing, all those who took part and Ben ‘av it dad’ Powell for comparing the second half.

Saturday Competition

This months Saturday Comp had 18 competitors of differing ages and abilities, sponsored by Wakefield’s skate shop Division 24.
The comp is based on the skaters tricks and effort in two disciplines within the park, best trick over the mini hip and a minute run each on the mini-ramp.
On the mini-hip they had two attempts from each side, highlights included regular Freddie ‘the rugrat’ Denton’s clean ollie and kickflip, Luke Days tweaked early grab and Zac’s ollie to 50-50 on the grind box on top of the hip. All the skaters pushed and encouraged each other inspiring extra effort resulting in a variety of tricks been landed.
The mini-ramp has been popular from the very first Saturday comp and has always produced moments of brilliance and stimulation.
Highlights were Zac’s ollie from a box set a-side from the ramp to disaster stall, Cainan’s kickflip to 50-50, Luke’s consistent run of grinds and lip tricks staying on his board for the entire run and finally Zach Wahlden’s bone shattering attempts to drop in for the first time.
After numerous attempts and mass encouragement from fellow skaters Zach dropped in successfully to a massive raw from the crowd! This gave him first prize purely on effort and bravery, absolutely brilliant. Second and third prizes went to another Zach for outstanding tricks on the mini-ramp and the hip also, mentioned above. And finally third went to Cainan for consistent runs throughout.
I would like to thank Division 24 for providing prizes and all the skaters who took part, roll on june!!!
